Customer advice regarding the Coronavirus
At this time when the news is dominated by Coronavirus, we wanted to let you know that we are vigilantly implementing enhanced protocols to ensure your safety, as well as flexibility of your rental bookings.
The safety of our customers and staff is of paramount importance to us and we are closely monitoring the news, information, advice and guidance from the World Health Organisation and local authorities regarding the spread of the Coronavirus. Our focus is to ensure we meet customer needs while doing our part to keep you and our employees safe.
Am I still able to rent a vehicle while NZ is in lock down?
The New Zealand government has announced a lockdown that will commence at 11:59pm 25th March until 25th April, 2020.
Budget will be closing ALL locations during the lockdown period and will only provide limited essential services as defined by the New Zealand government.
Customers can still return their vehicles today only being the 25th March (until 23.59 NZST). After this time customers are required to keep possession of the vehicle until the entire lockdown period has been ceased.
Customers who want to return the vehicle after the lockdown will be given suitable arrangements by calling the Contact Centre on firstname.lastname@example.org or 0800 283 438.
Customers who have made a reservation of a vehicle to be collected during the lockdown period will be advised that their reservation will be cancelled. This only applies to non-essential services.
Customers are able to make reservations after the lockdown ceases from 26th April onwards however this may change depending on advice from the New Zealand government.
If customers are required to return a vehicle due to needing to fly out of New Zealand please adhere to the following process:
- Customers need to return the vehicle to the nearest Airport location and leave the key at the airport's designated drop box (if no drop box, send an email to the Contact Centre immediately) only applicable till 23.59 on March 25th.
- Customers will be required to provide the following information : Residential phone number, contact details, exact airport location, carpark number, drobox number, RA agreement number, extension start date and end date.
- Customers who leave their vehicle at an airport location without advising the contact centre may still be charged.
What if I am from overseas and need to self-isolate?
Current travel restrictions outlined by the New Zealand government require anyone who returns from overseas to self-isolate for a two-week period as a precautionary measure. At this stage, we will be unable to rent a vehicle under these circumstances.
The Police, Ministry of Health (MOH) & Immigration NZ are acting to arrest, quarantine and deport people who fail to self-isolate when required.
Is Budget taking any additional precautions to help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus?
We are closely monitoring the information shared by the World Health Organization concerning advice on how to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
To help protect our staff and customers we are encouraging regular hand washing, and the use of hand sanitizer, where available. We’ve also enhanced the already robust cleaning techniques of our vehicles after each rental. In particular, we are paying special attention to the places people touch such as steering wheels, door handles and other hard surfaces.
